How To Move Across the World in 30 Days

Leaving everything you've ever known behind on a whim seems daunting... I know. But on the other side of the ocean lies a whole new life for you. If you want it, you can have it. It's possible.

Step One: Sell Sell Save

The best advice I can give: save money and sell all that you've got. As you can probably guess, moving across the country is expensive. I'm not going to hide that. But if you put a bit of each paycheck into savings, it'll begin to add up faster and faster. Making your dreams come true isn't going to be free, but sacrificing few nights out will be worth it. Once you get in the habit of saving and your account begins to grow, the next step is to sell. Go through your closets... go through your drawers... not only can you make money by taking selling these items to places such as thrift stores, it'll save you in the long run by saving luggage space and/or money you'll spend on a storage unit.

Step Two: Travel Agent for the Win!

Honestly, and I'm sorry to say it, but you can't do this all by yourself. This time it's not just as easy as a few Google searches. While finding a house and a job are all up to you, getting the cheapest flights, sorting visa/passport information, and gaining legal residency in such a short amount of time is extremely difficult. I've gotta say just leave it up to the pros. Sadly, travel agencies are a dying business even though people like us need them. Do yourself (and them) a favor by consulting an agent.

Step Three: Pack the Basics

Once your travel plans have been sorted and you've sold everything you own, you really only have the basics. So pack em. Just kidding, I know it's not that simple. Picking and choosing what to save and what to let go is really difficult. My recommendation is that you sort your clothes by layer. It's unreasonable to bring big bulky items. Be creative and look at your style simplistically. Bring a few pairs of shorts and a few pairs of jeans. Along with that go some t-shirts for the summer paired with a jacket/coat or two for the winter. You can always replenish your closet once you arrive...

Step Four: Just Go For It

By this point, you have nothing to lose! Grab your suitcase, make sure you have your passport, and get on that plane. The adventure of a lifetime is waiting for you just on the other side of ocean. All of that running and gathering will be worth it the second you land. Thank me later.
