My fellow travelers, it sure has been a tough year and a half. Foreign borders have been closed with no end in sight. But finally, country by country, the world has started its return to a state of normality. With this new strand of Delta, I'm not sure how long it will all last, but that is all the more reason to get out there right now.
A Guide to the BEST Countries to Visit this Year
Austria
Located just north of Italy, this country always has something to offer, no matter the season. Austria is famous for its castles, palaces, and mountainous villages. English is widely spoken in the business world, especially in the capital Vienna, making it an ever-growing tourist destination.
Belgium
Squished right in between The Netherlands and France, Belgium has gained the title of "little France." Known for its gothic architecture and world-famous chocolate, it's a place you'll go to eat too much but be able to walk it all off. Brussels, the capital city, has a vibrant nightlife that attracts many young adults.
Bulgaria
Being the oldest country in Europe, Bulgaria often gets swept under the rug. Located on the Black Sea coast, you know the views will be amazing. One of the biggest reasons to visit Bulgaria is the variety in scenery. You've got a beach town to your left and a picturesque mountain village to your right. I should also mention that it's dirt cheap... definitely a plus.
Croatia
Besides the exceptional food and wine, sailing along the coast is definitely the best reason to visit Croatia. Located on the Adriatic Sea, you can imagine beautiful orange buildings that contrast with bright blue water. The historical architecture is second to none; picture Game of Thrones (it was in fact filmed in Dubrovnik).
Czech Republic
Containing the largest castle complex in the world, Czechia is a can't-miss. The architecture, which dates back to the 1300s, is definitely the biggest attraction. Aside from being a time machine, it is located in the middle of Europe, making it a hub for all other domestic travel.

France
The land of big cities and charming countrysides, France has it all. As it is most well-known for its "city of love" aka Paris, the southern coast is sometimes overlooked. Beaming with bright colors and lavish lifestyles, it's the kind of place where your life really does become a movie. Speaking of movies, the Cannes Film Festival is spectacular.
Finland
Many claim that Finland is the happiest country in the world. Besides being one of the best places to admire the dazzling Northern Lights, life in the countryside is peaceful as can be. During Christmas, the country comes alive with Santa Claus villages galore. Legend has it that Santa actually lives in Finland... I guess there is only one way to find out!
Denmark
Although being just north of all the most popular tourist countries, Denmark is incredibly tranquil. While most of the country is exceedingly green and open, even the city life is quite chill. There is no reason to be stressed or to move quickly. Life sure runs at a different pace in Denmark.
Estonia
Saturated in untouched wildlife, Estonia is known for its abundance of National Parks. Along with that, the country is ranked #5 for best air quality. If you're not into nature don't worry for there are cities for you too. For example, Tallinn's old town is a must-see. Incredibly preserved gothic architecture drapes over the town, a sight for sore eyes, especially during Christmas time.
Germany
With an incredibly rich history and the scars to prove it, Germany is not one to be overlooked. It has a perfect mix of castles and cathedrals that suddenly turn into modern buildings and transportation. One huge benefit of this charming country is the fact that most people who live here speak English, especially in big cities such as Berlin.
Greece
As an avid Mamma Mia fan, I've since dreamed of moving to a small island and living the coastal life. I'm happy to report that the turquoise waters and white sand beaches are very real. Whether you prefer to party all night or sip Mai-Tai's all day, Greece is the place to be. Now for my history buffs, the birthplace of mythology is absolutely breathtaking. The ancient temples will make you question everything.
Iceland
Snow-covered volcanoes are not something you see every day. Iceland, located quite a bit north of the United Kingdom, really is a mystical place. From the Midnight Sun to the Northern Lights, the scenery is seemingly out of this world. One of the biggest attractions, being that the country is so often cold, are the Geothermal Baths. They are natural hot springs with crystal blue water; the perfect place to take in the view.
Ireland
Known as the Emerald Isle, Ireland really is the personification of the color green. No one says it enough. Everywhere you look there is lush greenery and smooth rolling hills, that is until you get to the coast. Specifically the Cliffs of Moher. As a country built on internal wars and violence, the protective castles lining the area are like nothing you've ever seen before.

Italy
The land of art, architecture, music, fashion, and food. Italy is a pillar of anyone's bucket list and if you're wondering why, the list goes on and on. From the ancient ruins of Rome to the grand canals of Venice, each city is known for something so completely different yet breathtaking all the same.
The Netherlands
You may not know The Netherlands but I'm sure you've heard of its capital, Amsterdam. Having the perfect mix of art and culture, there is always something to do. Lovers of museums, I'm here to tell you that you have found your new home. The history of this country has no bounds and they love to it off. But even so, they are proud to show just how far they have come. Take the feud between Amsterdam and Rotterdam for example. The old and the new. There is absolutely someplace for everyone to fit in.
Poland
Situated between the Baltic Sea and the Tatra Mountains, Poland is the land of adventure. The landscape ranges from beaches to forests and from mountains to deserts. The natural beauty of this country is impressive. Being the glue that holds Eastern and Western Europe together, Poland's Slavic culture has been influenced by the many countries surrounding it.
Portugal
On the west coast of Europe, Portugal is known for its historical maritime empire. With a plethora of gorgeous beaches and incredibly historic cities that sit among them, it makes sense why this country is such a hot spot for summer travel. Sharing a border with Spain, the home of all things soccer, Portugal is well-known for its sports as well as the legends they produce.
Romania
Home of Dracula's castle (as well as many others). Romania is known for its tall mountains and the incredible views that come with them. The country is full of old authentic villages with a medieval feel that you won't be able to find anywhere else. The Painted Monasteries may be the biggest feat, being a collection of ancient churches decorated with colorful bible stories.
Spain
I'm thoroughly convinced that this one country is actually just made up of a bunch of smaller countries. There is no other way to explain the variety of unique cultures in each and every Spanish town. Besides its rich history and heritage, Spain is known for its Mediterranean diet. The food is dosed with olive oil, fish, and only the freshest vegetables. While it is no "city of love" the romantic tourism along the Spanish coast is abundant.
Sweden
There is no other country quite as successfully functional as Sweden. Swedes like simplicity and sustainability. That's why their streets are clean, architecture is uniquely simple, and welfare itself is more relaxed. The cultural importance of both personal health and the health of the environment is something you won't see anywhere else in the world.
Switzerland
When you think of Switzerland you think of the Swiss Alps. That's only a taste of the remarkable scenery this country has to offer. Ever wonder what living inside of a Disney princess movie might feel like? That's Swiss life for you. I guess that's why they have the Matterhorn at Disneyland!

United Kingdom
The northwestern island nation of the United Kingdom is iconic. That's the best way to put it. Besides being one of the most popular tourist destinations year-round, it's the home of the Queen. There's just something fascinating about being American and following the Royal Family. But in regards to the landscape, you're never more than two hours away from the sea. In between coasts lie many farmlands, mountains, and the most picturesque villages and cities. From Edinburgh to London, there is much to do and see.
